Luksong Baka

A jumping game where kids take turns leaping over a crouching “baka” (cow), trying to jump higher each round without falling.

Players
• Minimum of 3 players, up to 10 players.
• One player starts as the Baka (the “cow”) or Taya (It).
• The rest are jumpers who take turns leaping over the baka.

Play Area
• A flat, open space — playground, grassy yard, or gym area.
• The ground should be soft or safe to land on to prevent injury.

Energy and Confidence
• This game needs strength, balance, and teamwork.
• Players should warm up before jumping to avoid strains.

Choose the Baka (It)
• Players decide who will be the first baka by playing “Jack-en-Poy” (rock-paper-scissors) or by volunteering.

Baka’s Starting Position
• The baka begins in a kneeling or crouched position with both hands resting on their knees.
• This forms a low target for others to jump over safely.

Line Up the Players
• The rest of the players line up a few feet behind the baka, ready to take turns jumping.

Set the Rules for Safety
• Only the hands of the jumper may touch the baka’s back.
• No pushing, tripping, or landing too hard on the baka.

1. Jump Over the Baka (Cow)
• One at a time, each player runs up and jumps over the baka, placing hands briefly on the baka’s back for balance.
• Make sure to clear the baka completely without touching or stepping on them.

2. Increase the Height
• After everyone jumps successfully, the baka raises their position slightly — from crouching to squatting, then gradually standing taller.
• The goal is to keep clearing the baka as the height increases!

3. Watch for Mistakes
• If a jumper touches, steps on, or falls over the baka, they become the new baka and take the crouched position.
• The previous baka joins the line of jumpers.

4. Continue the Game
• The game continues as the baka’s height rises each round.
• The challenge grows — players need more leg strength and timing to jump higher.

5. Ending the Game
• The group can end the game anytime or restart with a new baka.
• There’s no single winner — the fun is in teamwork, laughter, and skill!

⚠️ Safety & Team Tips
  • Play on grass or smooth ground to soften falls.
  • Avoid jumping if you feel tired — rest between rounds.
  • The baka should lower their head slightly to protect it from being hit.
  • Encourage cheering, confidence, and cooperation — no teasing or rough play.
