Bahay-Bahayan

Pretend play where kids act out family life.

Players
• At least 2 or more children — best with small groups.
• Everyone takes on different family or community roles.

Play Area
• A safe indoor or outdoor space large enough to move around.
• Can be played inside a living room, under a tree, or in a yard.

Materials for the Bahay (House)
• Blankets, pillows, chairs, boxes, or cardboard to build a pretend home.
• Optional: toy pots, pans, leaves, stones, or anything that can represent food and furniture.

Props (Optional)
• Dolls, stuffed toys, or simple objects that can act as “children,” “pets,” or “neighbors.”
• School or household items (like bags, books, or brooms) to make the pretend scenes more real.

1. Build the Houses
• Use the available materials to create makeshift houses or rooms.
• Each group can build their own house or stay together in one shared home.

2. Assign Roles
• Decide who will be the mother, father, children, grandparents, or pets.
• You can also add neighbors, teachers, or visitors for more fun.

3. Prepare the Props
• Place the toy pots, leaves, stones, and other pretend items around the “house.”
• Make spaces for areas like the kitchen, living room, or yard.

4. Set the Scene
• Choose what kind of “family life” you’ll act out —
examples: cooking, cleaning, going to school, or celebrating a birthday.

5. Start Playing!
• Begin your pretend family story — use imagination and teamwork!
• Players can add new events like guests visiting, problems to solve, or celebrations.
• There are no winners or losers — it’s all about creativity, fun, and bonding.

1. Gather Your Friends
Get a few friends or family members to join in the fun — the more, the merrier!

2. Build Your House
Use blankets, chairs, pillows, or boxes to create your pretend house.
You can build one big house together or make separate homes for each group.

3. Choose Your Roles
Decide who will play each part of the “family.”
• Examples: mother, father, child, grandparent, pet, or neighbor
• You can even add roles like teacher, vendor, or visitor to make it more creative.

4. Set the Scene
Imagine what’s happening in your household — maybe it’s breakfast time, school day, or fiesta day!
Talk together about what your family will do.

5. Start Acting and Playing
Act out daily life in your pretend home:
• Cooking with toy pots and leaves 🍲
• Cleaning or sweeping the house 🧹
• Going to school or work 🎒
• Taking care of the baby or pets 🐶

6. Add Some Drama
Make your story more exciting!
• You can pretend to have visitors, plan a party, or solve funny family problems.
• Some players might “argue” playfully or “get sick,” and others take care of them — all in good fun!

7. Keep It Going
There’s no time limit and no winners or losers — the goal is to imagine, share, and have fun together.
When you’re done, you can switch roles and start a new story!
