Aratiles (Starberries)

Bright red berries full of juicy sweetness and a light crunch — perfect to pop in your mouth right from the tree!

  • Aratiles / Aratilis (ah-rah-TEE-les / ah-rah-TEE-lees) – Filipino name for Muntingia calabura, also called Jamaican cherry or strawberry tree.
  • These little fruits are soft, juicy, and often compared to cotton candy or figs in flavor. The skin is thin, the flesh surrounds many tiny edible seeds, and each bite bursts with tropical sweetness.
  • Kids pick them fresh and pop them like candy straight from the tree. Some make jams or juices with them, or mix them into local desserts.
  • They fruit nearly year-round in tropical areas, but you’ll see more in the warmer months after dry spells.

Aratiles contain antioxidants, vitamins, and phytonutrients believed to support immune health, digestion, and general wellness.
